SCHOOL ADMISSIONS

School admissions

in London

This process varies depending on the type of school you are applying to, which school year your child will enter and whether they are due to start at the beginning of a new academic year or mid-year. This is a general overview:

English State Schools:

You must have a London address and you apply directly to your local Borough between mid-September and mid-January for a place the following September. For example, if your child is going to join a Reception class in September 2016, you must apply between September 2015 and January 2016. Offers of places are sent out on the national offer day in mid-April.

Independent UK / International Schools:

You can apply without having a UK address. Each school has its own deadline and you must apply to each school individually. In general the earlier you apply, the better your chances of a place at the school of your choice.

If your move to London does not coincide with the start of a new academic year, apply as follows:

English State Schools:

Contact your local Borough to find out the procedure once you have a UK address.

Independent UK / International Schools:

You can apply without having a UK address. Apply to each school individually and they will advise you about entry requirements and availability of places for your child’s school year. In some cases, you may need to join a waiting list.
